This game is great, battle mechanics are a delight. You can can kill some enemies with a key and feign an attack by smashing a pot. The "campaign" is a little short but Ive been playing the randomly generated levels and i find them infinitely fun. TL;DR great game download it now

Fun and frustrating. Very well done with minimal ads. Great game. Update: theyve started to include video ads, some of which loop infinitely. No longer playable. What a shame.

I love this game and I loved it even on the browser but on this app I hate how dying takes a while animation. I preferred it on the browser when you would just die and see how the mob would take your spot as you blew up. Or saw them swing as your blew up. This animation just gets annoying so maybe a setting to turn it off would be nice.

I never thought Id come across an ios game that was anything more than a time waster. This game is nonstop joy & difficult as hell! The main character and even the enemies are likable.

One of the best games

I never write reviews but I truly believe this game is very refreshing and fun. It sets a great median pace between turn based and real time which makes it easy to pick up and play yet give a challenge just deliciously enough. The main reason I wrote a review is to suggest an update some time to add skins or maybe even different classic weapons found in RPGs. (e.g. Different heads and weapons like magic staff, long sword, bow etc. It would be fun to use with this turn based dungeon crawl system). It would also really boost replay-ability to keep you hooked on the game for the long term on endless mode instead of the incentive being to beat your own score.

I think this game is awesome cause it makes you think about what move your gonna take next so it really challenges your brain. On another note the reason Im writing this review is actually because I just updated the app and saw that there had been weapons added that you can buy with the coins you collect in endless mode. Im having a hard figuring out how or even where to buy the weapons and Ive checked everywhere. Please help by writing a review with the answer to my dilemma, thanks!

What the title says, although its got a few ads here and there, which can be annoying, an otherwise great game that challenges the mind.

There is nothing bad I can say about this game. By far the best app I have. Amazing game. The only downside I can see is that you kinda have to be a gamer to get far, there are a lot of tricky levels. Endless mode is just such a fun time waster.

Ive logged a lot of hours on this game, and its very fun. I like that its being updated with new features and levels every so often, and that it doesnt try to sell us features. The art style is amazing. All in all I have a lot of faith in the development team. I think the game will only get better over time. The only problems I have involve the extreme difficulty of the endless mode. After playing for a solid two months on the bus and on down times, my highest score is fifteen doors. And thats with at least three or four uses of the continue button. I think the spawn rate of the stone enemies is too high! At a certain point theres really no way to deal with them. The new hammer is great, but since its limited to ten uses it gets used up quickly on those higher levels. It really is almost impossible to get to where the golden armor pigs are without at least one continue. Another issue thats come up with the new weapons is trying to move a certain direction without shooting your arrow or swinging your axe. As it is right now there is no way to move towards an object without shooting it with the arrow. This may be part of the point, a drawback to the arrow, but it seems like you should have a choice between using your weapon and moving. There are some game rules that are difficult to understand. For instance, the mechanics of a stone enemy pushing you over a tile is fraught with guesswork. If another enemy is preparing to attack the same square a stone pig is preparing to move, and you move into that square, sometimes you will be pushed by the stone pig, and sometimes you will be killed. Why is that? Also, the order the enemies move in, as in, if two enemies would move to the same square provided the other enemy isnt there, which enemy will get the square? Is it random? Is there an order of which enemy goes first? What is the point of the wooden doors? And how do they affect the difficulty of the game? I barely ever go through them unless I absolutely have to. Theres no explanation on why theyre there or what they offer, and they dont seem to provide extra rewards besides coins. I think tweaking the way the enemies spawn would go a long way to making the game a little less impossible. Obviously the game shouldnt be so easy we just waltz through it but sometimes the rooms feel absolutely impossible to get through.

This is definitely one of the best apps Ive played. It has the appeal and playability of a casual game, but both the levels and the endless mode offer very engaging, thoughtful gameplay. One of the things I especially like: Nitrome keeps coming out with great updates! The original release was still one of my favorite games, but it has gotten even better with three times as many levels, new monsters, shops, weapons, shields, and the promise of even more!

I have never reviewed a game. Ever. This game has changed my life for the better and I want the people at nitrome to now that theyve done an amazing thing with this game.

This game was really challenging which made it so fun. A real sense of accomplishment when I finally beat it. Also, very well made and ads dont come that often which is really cool.

The game is pretty great. It has a retro art style that works. It has plenty of levels, some of which are really difficult, and it has an infinite mode that is good too.

Perfect. The update is clean and the mechanics are still fluid. Fantastic job, Nitrome. I did some thinking -- and this may be too Binding of Isaac-esque -- but the wooden doors could be boss rooms or quest rooms if youd like to utilize the wooden doors to be an incentive beyond an escape strategy. Again, excellent job. This game is amazing.

If you enjoy strategy games like chess but get a little bored playing chess, this game is for you. Endless fun, good mental workout, and some good ol fashion hack-n-slash cathartic action.
